Cutting Health Costs for Chronic Illness

With rising medical expenses, it can be increasingly difficult to afford the health care that you need, especially if you have any chronic illnesses or health problems. Even if you do not have any expensive or chronic health problems, doctor’s visits and basic health check-ups can become large and difficult expenses. These ideas may help you find a way to cut down on the price you pay for health care and medicine.

Avoid the emergency room. Not going to the emergency room doesn’t mean you need to deal with an injury and not get treated. Instead, find a walk-in clinic where you can go to have minor injuries treated and save the emergency room runs for fractures and true emergencies. These are a few conditions that may be appropriate for a health clinic instead of the emergency room: a fever, a sprain, and a mild allergic reaction. However, once you find a clinic to use, call and confirm what they can treat before you have even suffered any injury.

Find new places to buy medicine. Buying your prescription medications from different stores or even out of the country may be a good way to save on some pretty significant expenses. Buying medicine from a pharmaceutical company in Canada is an example of this. It can be much cheaper, but just as legal. However, be sure to double check the legitimacy of a company before using them. Consider using Canada 411 to find a Canadian pharmacy to fill your need.

Make a list of things to discuss with your doctor before your appointment. This is one of the simplest ways that you can cut down on regular health expenses. Making sure that you can address all of the questions and concerns that you have can save you another appointment down the line, as well as make the best use of your time.

A Genetics based skin Disease

Psoriasis is the latest disease which has been included into genetic based diseases. Psoriasis is a disease f the immune system that turns the body’s own immune system towards the body. This chronic disease speeds up the growth of skin cells makes them to wither away more rapidly. There are many different forms of psoriasis that affects people of all ages and sex. It also allows the generation of Plaques on the skin under this fast growing skin. It is more prominent among people of the Caucasian race. About 2-3 % of the American and European people get this disease in their lifetime. The most prominent among these diseases are the psoriasis vulgaris which causes bad itch and scaly skin.

A recent research conducted by the along with Well come Trust Case Control Consortium and the Genetic Analysis of Psoriasis Consortium al has proved that psoriasis is a disease which is genetic in nature. The immune system of the body is linked to the genetic of the body. Hence any modification in the genes responsible for the immune system maintenance and modification causes the generation of this disease. The research was conducted in around 10,000 people which proved the genetic roots of this problem. People with the faulty ERAP 1 and HLA C genes are more susceptible to developing this disease. This causes the immune cells to move to the epidermis from the blood layers and cause inflammation. This is a form of auto immune disease where the immune system of the body becomes an enemy of the skin and causes a coordinated form of inflammation. Treatment is based on targeted therapies which target the immune system’s T cells. There are two separate types of drugs that cause the reduction of Psoriasis, but no drug is able to provide long term treatment for this disease.

Anorexia and Bulimia: Terrible Diseases with Tragic Consequences

Eating disorders are an affliction that often strikes women between the ages of 14 and 35. Although there have been some cases of males battling the disease as well, this is typically a female issue. Anorexia and Bulimia are the two more prevalent eating disorders that occur. Both are cases of the victim abusing their bodies to gain an acceptable-to-them level of weight loss and/or body im

age. This is a level that will never come to be because it is unattainable in the minds of the sufferers.

Anorexia involves intensive weight loss techniques such as self-starvation, excessive use of laxatives and obsessive exercise in order to conquer the paralyzing fear of becoming fat. Those who suffer with anorexia firmly believe they are fat despite what the mirror shows. Reality is not present when they look at themselves in the mirror, for they only see an overweight girl needing to lose pounds. Anorexics rarely admit to a problem even when they become dangerously thin and begin to experience severe medical problems that eventually require hospitalization. This eating disorder is almost always life threatening and all too often the medical intervention can be too late to repair the damage done to the body from years of nutrition deprivation.

Bulimia is the other most well known eating disorder in our society. In contrast to the starvation method of anorexia, bulimia is about binge eating. Binge eating consists of consuming many calories, often thousands of calories, in one sitting. Bulimics will polish off bags of chips and boxes of cookies in mere minutes, gorging their bodies to extreme excess. They will then purge the food by compulsive exercise, vomiting or using laxatives. During a binge episode, the victim suffers a loss of control over the amount of food being consumed followed by a short period of eerie calmness as the beast is seemingly satisfied. Self hatred then sets in and purging occurs, then the vicious cycle begins again. Bulimics are often of normal weight, or sometimes even overweight, making this eating disorder even harder to spot.

Food Allergy Symptoms: From Annoying to Life-Threatening

In this day and age, food allergies in kids seem to be more and more prevalent all the time. It is not really clear whether the rise in food allergies is the result of a true increase in the number of food allergies or if it is due to better awareness of food allergies in general. The symptoms of food allergies versus those of food intolerance issues can be similar, making it difficult to judge between the two issues.

We do know that the predisposition for food allergies in general is something that can be inherited from parent to child. The specific food allergy, such as an allergy to peanuts, is not hereditary per se, but the overall inclination to food allergies is. While sometimes food allergies in kids are outgrown, they must still be treated with care until it is proven so. The symptoms of food allergies are wide ranging both in type and intensity, sometimes making it hard to tell that it is a food allergy as opposed to an illness or allergy to something else in the environment. Food allergies are often confused with food intolerances, which are much milder and rarely threaten the child’s health.

Symptoms of food allergies are often as mild as a case of hives or various such rashes or a mild case of stomach upset that seems to come and go quickly. These are the reactions that are harder to pin down and diagnose as a food allergy because they are often mild and fleeting. A bona fide allergic reaction typically occurs after the second time a food is given to the allergic child and onset is often fairly fast. This is especially true in the case of severe reactions such as swelling of the lips and tongue or breathing problems. When allergic reactions are violent and life threatening, it is critical that the offending food item or ingredient be kept away from the allergic child and appropriate remedies such as an epi-pen are on hand for emergency treatment.

Over The Rainbow: A Legend in Need of a Drug Treatment Program

Judy Garland was a Hollywood legend, a child performer who wrenched our hearts with the soaring, heartfelt quality of her vocals, and the emotional quality of her acting. She had a voice that could bring a crowd to its feet while reducing it to tears. She was a once in a generation talent, the kind they don’t seem to make anymore.

She was a child performer, a little kid who stood out with her huge voice. Her star quality was obvious, and so, her mother took her to Hollywood, as part of the “Gumm Sisters” vaudeville act. She stood out from her sisters and was quickly noticed by Louis B. Mayer at the MGM studios. With her big eyes and “heart on her sleeve” performances, she was signed to a contract and quickly became a star, appearing with Mickey Rooney in the lovably engaging “Andy Hardy” film series. She and Rooney had wonderful charisma together, and they became lifelong friends.

At age 17, Judy won the role that made her a legend. She played Dorothy Gale, the little girl who travels from hot, dusty Kansas to the Emerald City in “The Wizard of Oz,” with a performance that was unforgettable. Her rendition of the classic tune “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” was one for the ages.

“Oz” made Judy a major star, but the nonstop work and the pressure to perform took a toll. She began taking stimulants to keep up with the constant demands from the studios, and to control her weight. She then took sleeping pills to settle her and deal with a growing insomnia problem. As the years went on, Judy developed a major addiction. Her behavior became erratic, and despite an attempt at a cure in a drug treatment program, Judy Garland died in 1969 at age 47, due to an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.
