How to Overcome ED

Erectile dysfunction is one of the most common health problems among men. This health condition reduces or eliminates a man’s ability to get or maintain an erection. Whereas ED is most often experienced by older men (above 40), it is not uncommon for younger men. The good news is that, in spite of the negative impact on your sex life and self-confidence, ED is not too difficult to overcome.

Get Some Counseling

Erectile dysfunction might be a result of an unhealthy mental or emotional state. You might need to see a counselor, who can help you address your relationship issues, guilt, or other psychological problems.

Visit a Doctor

A doctor can identify any medical reasons that might have caused erectile dysfunction. Based on your medical examination and underlying causes, your doctor can recommend a plan of action. Your doctor may also suggest that you buy some Viagra to maintain your libido and self-confidence.

Share Your Feelings with Others

Since erectile dysfunction can be caused due to emotional reasons, sharing your feelings with others might be helpful, too. If you are shy talking to your friends and family about this issue, you can register at an online forum for ED patients. You can then discuss your problem with real people and expect some helpful responses.

Try Medication for Quick Results

For maintaining your sex drive and a healthy relationship, you may want a medicine that can deliver quick results. For instance, you can buy Viagra online right from your PC. Using the Internet to order Viagra is particularly useful for people who don’t want to reveal their identity to others.

The Link Bteween Obesity and Genetics

Obesity is a growing problem within American society. With each passing year, the percentage of Americans who become obese has drastically grown, turning into an epidemic. Through this problem, there has been a growing list of health problems associated with obesity; issues such as heart attacks, diabetes, and cancer are all on the rise as a result. Medical researchers are trying to find a link between prospective causes of obesity to assist in finding a way to stop the hermmorhaging before it spirals innately out of control. Since research began, there are two common links that are assisting in the rise of the obesity rate; eating habits and genetics.

Genetics

The concept of a bad diet is fairly self explanatory, in that if someone consumes too much fatty foods that are processed, they are going to gain weight. However, the concept of genetics is something that many people are not familiar with as it pertains to obesity. The genetics involved in obesity deal with a lot of factors, among some of the most common being: bone structure, immune system and metabolism. All of these factors help contribute to determing a persons weight, on top of outside and environmental elements.

Research has found that as Americans continue to over eat and become obese, remaining in the state of woeful unhealthy daily life, they inadvertantly are changing their genetic makeup to reflect this. They then pass these newly created genetics to their children while simultaneously raising them in the same unhealthy way; promoting unhealthy eating and lack of exercise.

Atavism and the Regulation of Genes

Autosomal recessive gene
Image via Wikipedia

Every species has a certain kind of genetic blueprint for how it is supposed to develop. Indeed, every individual within any given species has their own very specific genetic blueprint which their bodies start out following and generally continue with throughout their lives. However, in some cases there is a sort of issue which can arise, as a gene which is supposed to be expressed in one way is accidentally expressed in a completely different way from the way it was intended to be. Because of this tendency, we often find a phenomenon known as atavism in various different species, including humans. Atavism has been defined as the disappearance of a trait for several generations, followed by its reemergence later on within the same species.

Atavism is often the result of the failure of a particular gene to be regulated in the way it usually is. For example, whales still have the genetic tendency to have legs at the rear sides of their bodies. And in nearly every case, these legs do not develop in the slightest. However, in some extremely rare cases, this genetic regulation does not go as usual, and a whale is born with a tiny set of vestigial legs dangling off of its body. And in the same vein, sometimes a chicken has the same type of failure, which results in it having the same basis which causes other, similar species (like their genetic ancestor, crocodiles) to grow teeth.

Atavism has been fairly certainly shown to have come out of the failure within a particular individual for certain genes to be regulated as they normally would be within that species. This genetic regulation, in some cases, is fairly optional, as there is no harm to the lack thereof. However, in some cases it can end up in tragedy, such as the lack of genetic regulation which causes a resistance to malaria to turn into sickle cell anemia within a few people.

Lifting Weights can Change who you Are

It is a little known fact, not so much among scientists but among the general public, that your DNA can actually be altered through the thoughts and actions you practice on a daily basis. While your parents did give you a set grouping of DNA, what they gave you is unbelievably malleable. Believe it or not, you can actually change how your body works through activities which are as simple as working out on a regular basis. Consider how much different a person’s body tends to become when they begin to work out regularly, and it should be obvious that there is something which goes on inside them which is different than what they were before. What a lot of folks think is happening, however, is just an exterior change.

When you perform an activity like lifting weights seriously, your body produces more testosterone. Keep in mind that while this is similar to what steroids do, it is not something which will cause you harm. This is a perfectly natural chemical reaction that your body is designed to do. Your muscles and body hair will begin to grow more quickly by a huge margin over what happened before (which was most likely little to no growth, or even atrophy). When this change begins, your DNA will actually change somewhat as a consequence of what you are now doing.

What is truly interesting about being able to make a concerted, proactive change in your own life is that it opens the door to all kinds of other possibilities that you may have never considered. While further research is definitely necessary before we all go off and try to make huge changes to our genes, who knows what else may be possible with little more than a different thought process and a concerted, prolonged effort? Far too many people have never even considered that they can change their lives, but now we know they can do so.

The fat Gene: Myth or Foolishness?

A lot of people (specifically, rotund people for the most part) have developed this silly notion that a person’s size and weight have some kind of a genetic basis to them. And while it might be tempting to simply blame the genes that your parents gave you for the life you are living right now, this is irresponsible to the point of idiocy. After all, you are the person who chooses how much you work out, and you are also the person who chooses what you eat every day. So if your body type is not what you desire it to be, how could you really blame it on your DNA? Obviously, some people are more prone to being fat than other people are. But this is a small differential, at most.

Everyone knows that when you eat less calories than you burn over an extended period, you lose weight. And as well, when you take in more calories than you burn, you gain weight. If you have a lot of small muscle damage, your muscles get repaired first, and you grow larger in the form of becoming more buff. However, if you are simply storing away more fat reserves for a famine which will most likely never come around, you gain your weight in the form of becoming rotund. What do these things have to do with your genes?

The answer is, they have almost nothing to do with the genes your family gave you. All of the genetic evidence to suggest that genes play any part whatsoever in a person’s weight indicate that the differential could be compensated for easily through diet and exercise. Examples of “fat families” have universally been demonstrated to be due to their mutual practice of diet and exercise habits, and as having nothing whatsoever to so with the genes which they share. After all, your genes are not your destiny- what you do every day makes your destiny.

About Niaspan and Its Common Side Effects

Niacin (also commonly known as vitamin B3) has been found to be effective in treating abnormal cholesterol levels. It has been marketed for this purpose under the name Niaspan and is available by prescription. Niaspan is an orange tablet coated in a thin film and made to release into the body over an extended period of time; it comes in three dosage strengths containing 500, 750 and 1000 mg of niacin respectively.

In addition to raising good HDL cholesterol levels and simultaneously lowering bad LDL cholesterol levels, Niaspan also reduces the risk of heart attacks, particularly in individuals whose cholesterol levels are abnormal, and can be combined with other medications to slow the buildup of plaque and the hardening of arteries found in individuals who have both coronary artery disease and bad cholesterol.

Niaspan side effects include feeling nauseous, vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, headaches and a group of side effects that lumped together are referred to as “flushing”. Traits of flushing include reddening of the skin around the neck, shoulders and face accompanied by sensations of warmth, itchiness and/or tingling. Flushing is an extremely common side effect of using Niaspan, affecting up to 88 percent of individuals for at least the first few weeks of taking the drug.

After the first few weeks, often the flushing will subside; until then, Niaspan’s web site advises that you take your daily dose just before bedtime so that the effects of flushing will more than likely occur while you are sleeping and you won’t even notice them. If the tingling, warmth or itching awakens you during the night, take care not to sit up or move around too fast, as lightheadedness and dizziness are often also present. Another common complaint from users of Niaspan is that the drug upsets their stomachs; the web site advises people to take their Niaspan with a meal to eliminate this problem.

Cutting Health Costs for Chronic Illness

With rising medical expenses, it can be increasingly difficult to afford the health care that you need, especially if you have any chronic illnesses or health problems. Even if you do not have any expensive or chronic health problems, doctor’s visits and basic health check-ups can become large and difficult expenses. These ideas may help you find a way to cut down on the price you pay for health care and medicine.

Avoid the emergency room. Not going to the emergency room doesn’t mean you need to deal with an injury and not get treated. Instead, find a walk-in clinic where you can go to have minor injuries treated and save the emergency room runs for fractures and true emergencies. These are a few conditions that may be appropriate for a health clinic instead of the emergency room: a fever, a sprain, and a mild allergic reaction. However, once you find a clinic to use, call and confirm what they can treat before you have even suffered any injury.

Find new places to buy medicine. Buying your prescription medications from different stores or even out of the country may be a good way to save on some pretty significant expenses. Buying medicine from a pharmaceutical company in Canada is an example of this. It can be much cheaper, but just as legal. However, be sure to double check the legitimacy of a company before using them. Consider using Canada 411 to find a Canadian pharmacy to fill your need.

Make a list of things to discuss with your doctor before your appointment. This is one of the simplest ways that you can cut down on regular health expenses. Making sure that you can address all of the questions and concerns that you have can save you another appointment down the line, as well as make the best use of your time.

Food Allergies: Are They Inherited?

52 Weeks - Week 5 - Food Allergy and Intoloren...

Food allergies are something every parent keeps an eye out for when their child begins to eat foods other than breast milk or formula. A food allergy happens when the body decides to recognize a harmless food product such as peanut butter or eggs as something dangerous and reacts accordingly. When the body’s immune system perceives a food to be a threat, it reacts by turning loose histamines to fight the battle. Histamines cause the symptoms of the allergy attack and can be as mild as rashes or as severe as breathing problems. In severe cases, a food allergy is life threatening.

Food allergies can and do run in families, meaning they can be passed down from one or both parents to child. If one parent has food allergies, the chances are 50% that the child could develop a food allergy. If both parents have food allergies, then the chances go up to 75% that the child or children could also have food allergies. It is important to note that in the case of food allergies, what is inherited by the child from one or both of the parents is not necessarily the specific food allergy, but the predisposition to have a food allergy in general. This means that if you are allergic to peanut butter, your child inherits a bias towards food allergies in general but not necessarily to peanut butter. So all foods must be watched when first giving them to a child in the case where parents suffer from food allergies. Typically a child’s first allergic reaction to a food will happen after the second exposure to the offending food item.

What is the difference between a food allergy and food intolerance? Food intolerances are actually more common than bona fide food allergies, for one thing. Secondly, food intolerances do not involve the immune system, therefore they are typically not nearly as threatening to the child’s health as a food allergy might be. Foods that cause intolerance can usually be eaten in small doses without problems while foods that cause allergic reactions should be avoided.
